Traditional villa in Varna, Bulgaria. On the shore of Varna bay, (more often referred to as Varna lake), with jetty (pier), and motor boat. Very romantic. The bay is large, spanning many miles upstream, and combines with the Black sea at the other end. Fishing rods supplied, (not fly-fishing). Ideal for fishing, boating, windsurfing, and watersports. The villa has a lot of character, is only 12 years old, and is comfortable and homely. It was newly decorated and furnished in 2004. It has apricot, hazelnut, apple, cherry, fig, and plum trees, and an outdoor "summer kitchen", and garden furniture, with many chairs and a wooden garden table over 2.5m long, an outdoor oven that can take 2 sheep, and a smaller barbeque. It is under a fig tree, about 8m from the villa, and has one open side.
Very friendly local fishermen are in this area, it is unspoilt and undeveloped. There are absolutely no tourists, or tourist facilities, which all are in the other side of the town. In this area, the donkey or horse and cart are still in use. Magnificent views of the bay. There are sometimes dolphins in the bay. Also an ideal area for painters, with the ever changing mood of the water.There are three small shops within 15 minutes walk. Varna city centre is a 10 minute drive, and has several large open air markets, fish market, cinemas, clubs, and usual tourist facilities. There are buses to the centre and to beaches in Varna (15 mins. ride) and other towns up along the coast. The water temperature is usually 25 - 27 Centigrade in the summer! The villa is in a green protected area, containing reeds and trees.      The lower floor of the villa is for the staff, and has not been re-decorated yet. Although this is a self catering villa, there is a part-time maid provided if required, to help with light cleaning, hoovering etc. There is also usually someone who can help with the boats and any general enquiries. (No extra cost for staff). The upper floor of the villa has three double bedrooms, (usually king-size double beds), living room, bathroom (containing a bath and shower attachment), hall/reception used as a kitchen, balcony, and external access. One of the bedrooms also has external access, as well as internal access to the living room. Normally sleeps up to 6, please consult if a greater number. Linen is provided, microwave, fridge freezer, cooker. Small towels (not beach towels) are provided, there is no air-conditioning, (the walls are thick and the villa keeps cool), there is also no TV, telephone, or dish washer. The washing machine is downstairs as the maid can deal with any washing of clothes, or you may use the washing machine yourself if preferred. Housekeeping and linen services are included. Frequency of housekeeping services can be arranged to suit guests' schedule and needs for privacy. If requested, we can arrange to meet you at Varna Airport or Varna Train Station. However late you arrive, you will not have to worry. We will stand by and wait for your call if there are any unexpected delays. We will email you written directions and sketches shortly before your departure. Note it may be useful for you to print out or copy the location of the villa, (under one of the links on our web site). Children welcomed. Please be considerate when smoking, providing adequate ventilation in rooms containing soft materials. WATER SPORTS:A range of water sports is available such as fishing, boating and canoeing. See below. These are all free of charge, except for the boat fuel.FISHING:Fishing equipment supplied, fishing is possible just outside the villa, or you can use the motor boat to fish. The caretaker can help. Please note currently our fishing gear is standard, not fly-fishing gear.BOATING:   We have a small motor boat at the villa, available for your use. All you pay for is the fuel. We can help you, and provide instructions. The boat and motor were purchased new in the year 2004. PAINTING HOLIDAY FOR ARTISTS:The view of the bay and old wooden fishing boats that are often pre-war, make an ideal subject for painters, with reeds in the background. There are also plenty of birds, as the area is a protected bird sanctuary. There are several shops for artists supplies in town.SAILING:Sail boats (usually 'optimist' sailing dinghies) are available at a sailing school around 3 minutes walk up the lane. There is a small charge for a days' hire, (10 Euro)CANOEING:  A single canoe is available (an Idian style canoe that seats 3), free of charge. SPEARFISHING IN THE BLACK SEA:A friend is available, professor Nikolay Nedev, to take you in his boat and provide aqualung equipment to teach or accompany you on spear fishing trips for 20 Euro. He is winner of many European underwater championships, lectures at the University of Varna, (mechanical engineering). He has his boat outside the villa. Spearfishing Click to view Nikolay.CAR HIRE IN VARNA BULGARIA:We had one guest come who had booked a car, from UK, to meet him at the airport, (this was in Sofia). He waited in vain, and eventually went to the office, where they denied having booked him. They had obviously found another client. Things like this, and worse can happen. I know one or two reliable big companies that have very competitive rates, and guests have had no problem with their service, (when for example, a car got towed away for parking). I few years ago, I did have this driver available for hire with car at 100Euro per week. This was for an 8 hour day, seven days (plus petrol), flexible times. He was a helicopter pilot! See picture. Unfortunately, this has been discontinued, he left, and others were not reliable. Picture of Car.SMALL KIDS ACTIVITIES:We have some fishing nets, (like butterfly nets) of different sizes, and these are a favorite for kids, used to collect all sorts of creatures around the villa, such as different types of sea-horse, groups of small fish, crabs, shrimp, etc. We also have large containers available to put these in and for the kids to examin what they have caught. Also, there is an area at the back of the garden where kids can build a camp fire, (under your supervision).HOUSE HUNTING, PROPERTIES FOR SALE IN BULGARIA:Many properties in Bulgaria are still under valued by the owner, and these are more easily found through personal contacts, rather than the estate agents. While you are staying in the villa, you can easily explore and expand on the "friend of a friend" type of contact, whereas in a tourist resort this would be difficult as most contacts made there would probably have been tried before.WEATHER:Weather forecast. Bulgarian Travel SECURITY:A member of staff can stay permanently at the villa for no extra charge, if you are worried about personal effects and valuables. The area around the villa is very secure, as it is mostly frequented by fishermen. The villa has installed a security system with a sensor in every room, (except bathroom), and security guards arrive in a few minutes, if the alarm is set off. Bulgaria is as safe as any other European country. There is probably less crime in general, and less violent crime, but more petty theft due to the severe economic problems in recent years. The country is de-populated, and has little industry, but is recovering, and is one of the cheapest countries. A taxi ride can cost you 2 USD, a cup of coffee and two soft drinks could cost you less than 1 USD.
